First US Printing. A Near Fine extremely tight copy with a previous owner name on the front pastedown in a Near Fine unclipped dust jacket with a tiny nick to the top edge of the front panel. Book is virtually unread. Jacket has some darkening to the spine but front & rear panels are bright. This volume contains the 57 page diary Lawrence kept during a journey he made on foot through Northern Syria in the summer of 1911 to study and photograph the Crusaders' castles and the collection of antiqities. Also included is the first publication of the suppressed introductory chapter to Seven Pillars of Wisdom along with a selection of character studies, a previously unattributed essay and 129 photographs by Lawrence many before unpublished.
