Green with Beasts: Poems.
by [Poetry] Merwin, W.S.

Publisher Information:
Knopf, New York: 1956.

A Near Fine copy in Near Fine dust jacket with light moisture spotting to the front cover a touch of sunning to the edges. Merwin's early subjects were frequently tied to mythological or legendary themes, while many of his poems featured animals. In the mid-fifties, he joined the circle of writers that surrounded Robert Lowell and Merwin decided to seek a more American vernacular. He turned inward, toward more introspective and personal subjects. At this time he also began experimenting with form and irregular metrics. This is Merwin's third book of poetry printed from the UK plates.
