For many years, Betty Wason worked as a writer and broadcast journalist but in1943 she published her first book on cookery. For the next 40 years she continued to write numerous books on food and cooking including The Language of Cookery. Wason provides more than 1100 words used in cooking terminology referring to fruits, vegetables, and other basic foods as well as spices, herbs, and utensils.
