Irwin walked on the Moon during the Apollo 15 mission in 1971 and manned the Lunar module "Falcon" for 18 hours on the Moon's surface. As a result of his Apollo experience, Irwin underwent a devout religious experience that until he wrote this book he was not allowed to publicly discuss. "As we flew into space," Irwin writes, "we had a new sense of ourselves, of the earth, and of the nearness of God. I sensed the beginning of some sort of deep change taking place inside of me," Irwin died in 1991 of a heart attack. Item #19184
