Journal of a Novel. The East of Eden Letters.
New York: Viking Press, 1969. First Printing of the First US Edition. A Fine tight copy in a Very Good plus unclipped dust jacket with some light wear to head of the extremities. From January to November 1951, Steinbeck began his writing day, while working on East of Eden, by jotting down his ideas for the novel as well as personal letters to his editor Pascal Covici. These letters were never intended for publication and reflect his ongoing battle with the project and his observations on the events of the day. What these letters show is the flow of Steinbeck's mind and the nature of his creative process. Item #28196
