A Near Fine copy with bookplate on front pastedown in a Very Good plus unclipped dust jacket with a small chip to the spine fold, Samuel Hancock was an early explorer of the Pacific Northwest, especially in and around the Puget Sound region beginning in 1845. He was the first white man to visit what is now Snoqualmie Falls with the help of local trigesmen. He traveled from what is now Oregon to as far north as Vancouver Island in search of trading opportunities. He documented his observations of Northwest Indians including their customs and mastering the Chinook ;language. He ultimately settled on Whidbey Island where he wrote of his experiences. Item #29180
