Reflections on the Atomic Bomb. Volume 1 of the Previously Uncollected Writings of Gertrude Stein.

Los Angeles: Black Sparrow Press, 1973. First Hardcover Printing of the First US Edition. A Fine tight copy in a Fine dust jacket. This is one of only 750 hardcover copies issued. (published in 1973 by Black Sparrow Press) is a curated collection of her later works. Edited by Robert Bartlett Haas, this volume gathers Stein’s poetry, plays, and "literary music" written between 1928 and 1946. The book takes its name from her fascinating 1946 essay, "Reflection on the Atomic Bomb." In it, she famously wrote that things are simple for people who make them and that the only thing that makes life go on is the things we do not know. The collection steps away from her early Paris-era abstract prose, bringing together more accessible, imaginative, and theatrical pieces. Item #29475
